The world of Azeroth is facing multiple threats as an unknown evil is looming on the horizon. The game picks up after the destruction of the dark portal in Warcraft II, with Thrall leading the captured orcs to new lands across the sea. Meanwhile, the Humans are troubled by a mysterious disease and the elves are fearing for the World Tree as a new evil is stirring. The undead are preparing to enter the World of Azeroth and it would take all the races to unite to survive.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos features four playable races; humans, night elves, orcs and the undead, each with unique units and buildings. The game also features hero units that level up, a first for the series. The game received a remake in 2020 called Warcraft III: Reforged, including both the first game and its expansion, The Frozen Throne.
